Our Fair Design Practices
In November 2023, India's Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) issued binding Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns. In November 2025, the CCPA issued notices to nine platforms for violations. We took the guidelines seriously from day one and treat them as the floor, not the ceiling. This page lists our public commitment against each of the thirteen notified patterns.
Our stance
- No fake scarcity. No fake urgency. No hidden fees.
- Consent defaults to OFF. You opt in — we do not opt you in.
- Sponsored placements are always visibly labelled.
- Cancel and unsubscribe are one click, no guilt copy.
- The price you see is the price you pay.
The 13 CCPA-notified dark patterns
- #1False urgencyWe don't do this
We do not use fake stock-scarcity text or hard countdown timers on product pages.
- #2Basket sneakingWe don't do this
Nothing is pre-added to your cart. Insurance, protection plans and donations must be actively chosen.
- #3Confirm shamingWe don't do this
Cancel, unsubscribe and dismiss actions use neutral language — no guilt copy.
- #4Forced actionWe don't do this
Browsing, category pages, search and product detail are fully public. No account required to explore.
- #5Subscription trapWe don't do this
One-click revoke-all on the Privacy page. Newsletter unsubscribe is a single POST from the email footer.
- #6Interface interferenceWe don't do this
Marketing, analytics and personalisation consent all default to OFF. No pre-checked boxes anywhere in signup.
- #7Bait and switchWe don't do this
The price you see on the product card is the price charged. MRP strike-through reflects genuine seller-set list price.
- #8Drip pricingWe don't do this
Platform fee (2.5%) and delivery are itemised on the cart and checkout — never revealed only at the final step.
- #9Disguised advertisementWe don't do this
Every paid placement carries a visible "Sponsored" chip on the card. Organic and paid results are visually distinct.
- #10NaggingWe don't do this
Cookie and consent prompts appear once. Dismissing does not queue them to reappear on the next page load.
- #11Trick wordingWe don't do this
Consent labels avoid double negatives ("Send me marketing emails," not "Do not opt out of receiving offers").
- #12SaaS billing patternsWe don't do this
SociMart is a marketplace, not a subscription. Sellers pay a per-transaction fee only. No auto-renewal exists.
- #13Rogue malwareWe don't do this
N/A — we do not distribute software.
